Deep Cove

(New picture on the header of my blog, btw, for those of you using google reader...  Big thanks to Amy Jo Photography for the awesome picture!)

Another Vancouver post.  Here is a map of where Deep Cove is.  UBC is on the peninsula west of the word "Vancouver" on the map.  You can also see Bowen Island, which I posted about before.  Also, you can see the "Sea to Sky Highway" which runs up the coast.

So, Deep Cove was one of my favorite days in Vancouver.  (Other faves were the salmon hatchery and Lynn Canyon both in North Vancouver).  Deep Cove was awesome because it was beautiful and because it was great weather and we went on a weekday so it was all to ourselves.

View from the parking lot

Deep Cove is a little town with a little downtown (with restaurants) and trails around this harbor.  Many homes are sea front property and we had a fun time walking around looking at all the homes.  This one, below, wasn't sea front (they were across the street from the ocean...) had a stream running through it.  The picture doesn't do it justice but there was a mountain behind it with a stream and part of their home was built over it.  They had landscapers working as you can see.

We took a short (public) trail between two homes down to this view.  The piers are from people's homes to the water.

Low tide

The pier on the right was one the public could walk on.

These pictures melt my heart:

Little Audrey happy to be outside, even if she is mostly confined to her stroller.

We took a walk down the pier and could see starfish in the water!  The bright orange spots are almost all starfish (called sunflower sea stars).  You can see a bunch of pictures of them here.  They have 20 arms. The bright orange spot in the top right corner is a jelly fish.  The aquarium had a section with local ocean life but it was fun to see it in the wild.

Sophia's favorite part was probably the playground.

  1. That header picture did turn out cute! That spot looks really cool, especially in low tide. Can't wait to see you guys again. Hopefully it will be soon! :)
